Hellbastard Ripper Crust LP is the legendary 1988 second album from the Newcastle UK crust punk pioneers, originally released on Earache Records. This Hellbastard LP is considered THE foundational crust punk record - the band literally coined the term "crust" on their 1986 demo of the same name, then expanded the sound here into the album that essentially defined crust punk as a genre. Heavy as fuck Discharge-influenced UK hardcore with metal crossover and thrashy elements, with vocalist Scruff leading the band through tracks including International Affairs, Justly Executed, Apocalypse Of Hate, Tetra Mahyhem, Outdated Hippies, Door To Door Salvation, We Had Evidence, Death From Above, Heading For Internal Darkness, and Death Camp. Hellbastard formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1984 and stand as one of THE foundational bands of UK crust alongside Amebix, Antisect, and the wider Discharge-influenced UK hardcore underground. Their influence extends from crust punk into death metal and grindcore - inspiring Doom, Deviated Instinct, Bolt Thrower, Carcass, Napalm Death, ENT, Disrupt, and countless more. Essential listening for fans of UK crust punk, foundational crust, stenchcore, d-beat, anarcho-punk, and the entire UK extreme music underground that owes a massive debt to Hellbastard's pioneering vision.
