Crass 10 Notes On A Summers Day LP is the final and most avant-garde album from the legendary UK anarcho-punk band, originally released on Crass Records in 1986 as the group's official swansong. This Crass LP delivers two versions of the same composition - a vocal mix and an instrumental mix - of a 20-minute avant-garde piece written by drummer Penny Rimbaud in summer 1984 while working as the pool attendant at Summerhill School. Following the experimental trajectory of Christ The Album and Yes Sir I Will, 10 Notes is bereft of chainsaw guitars, shouting, and swearing, instead drawing on Penny Rimbaud's free jazz roots and the band's growing willingness to push beyond punk's sonic limits. The sleeve announced the band's demise with the statement: 10 Notes represents Crass's last formal recording. We shall continue to make statements both individually and as a group, yet no longer feel obliged to be limited by the inward looking format of the band.
