Menace G.L.C. (R.I.P.) The Best Of Menace LP is the essential singles collection from the legendary London UK punk band Menace - one of the immediate forerunners of the Oi! sound later adopted by skinhead bands, predating both Sham 69 and Cockney Rejects. This Menace LP features the iconic G.L.C. (Greater London Council) anthem - boasting one of UK punk's most memorable choruses: GLC GLC GLC, You're Full of Shit Shit Shit. Menace formed in 1976 at the Hope and Anchor pub in Islington London with vocalist Morgan Webster (R.I.P. 1991), guitarist Steve Tannett, bassist Charlie Casey, and drummer Noel Martin. London's first generation no-nonsense boot boys - their fans included both punks and skinheads and they're often cited as the first band to unite this potentially volatile mix. Working-class sloganeering (If we're working class, why ain't we got jobs?) and more musically adept than you might imagine. After the GLC single came out, Sniffin' Glue magazine trumpeted that Menace were "the best punk band in England today." Originally signed to Miles Copeland's Illegal Records before moving to Small Wonder. Essential listening for fans of UK77 punk, UK Oi! origins, foundational British punk, working-class punk, and the bridge bands between first-wave UK punk and the Oi! movement alongside Sham 69, Cockney Rejects, and Cock Sparrer.
